Dedication – I would like to think I’ve always been a dedicated person. It isn’t in my personality to give up easily. Running a blog plus working full-time brings a new meaning to the word. Running a blog is a lot of work! It is critical that I continue to produce content consistently in order to keep people engaged. For me, it is something I’m was passionate about and that keeps it fun! Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t still be running it!
Balance – Sometimes life feels like one big balancing act. With so many obligations, it is hard to find time to do all of the things I want to do and not feel overwhelmed. Creating a plan for the week helps maintain balance in my life. I know what to anticipate and I’m more productive. Even though I try to create a plan for the week, flexibility is key. Schedules are constantly changing and sometimes things come up and I just go with it! Learning how to create that balance is tricky sometimes. There are some days where I may have a plan but by the time I get home the only thing I want to do is sit on the couch and watch TV. That’s ok because sometimes that is exactly what I need!
Lighting & Photography – I’ve always loved taking photos, it is one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place! After creating content for a year, I’ve learned a lot about lighting and editing photos. I’ve read tons of articles on editing and improving the composition of my photos. Having great photos is key to attracting people to your blog. A couple of the key take-aways I’ve learned: color balance, image cropping, focus, and layout.
The Not So Glamorous Side of Blogging – What I mean by that is all the stuff behind the scenes that I never knew about. I did all sorts of research to try to understand SEO (still haven’t quite mastered that), blog analytics, and how to attract new visitors. I also learned that in order to have a successful blog, most bloggers treat it like a business. Another thing I read quite a few posts about is how to stay motivated when writing a blog. It’s easy to feel the pressure to create content people want to read and get writer’s block.
The Possibilities Are Endless – Even though I’ve now been writing this blog for a year, I feel like I’m still just at the beginning. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I want to create. There are so many possibilities and paths out there, I’m excited to see where this next year takes me. I hope you stick around to see where it does!
